Headwaters Academy was a great option and choice for our family and our three sons who attended there over the years. Headwaters offered a small, nurturing atmosphere of learning for more one on one (instruction) during the junior high years. We believed that investing in the boys’ education during this formative time was essential for learning good study habits and work ethic while developing respectful and deep friendships with teachers and fellow students. The outdoor activities and field study were a great fit for our adventurous family. Students learned outdoor and camping skills while backpacking, canoeing, skiing and traveling to Mexico. It is extraordinary to experience the outdoor classroom for science, art and cultural discovery. We are a happy former “Headwaters” family and I would recommend it (Headwaters Academy) highly. Headwaters transformed our daughter from the sidelines to a highly engaged student. Because of class size, teacher excellence and a culture that honored multitudes of skills she prospered. Today she continues on the path that we know began at Headwaters. I can’t describe the gratitude Rena and I feel towards Headwaters for all it has done for Katie. For context, we are parents of two boys and our family has experienced both public and independent schools in Bozeman. As every parent knows making a school choice and remaining objective in the decision making process is serious business. We as a family are happy to report choosing Headwaters Academy for our boys has been the biggest no-brainer decision in our academic experience. On our Ecuador trip we made around 50 lbs of bread dough at once! All of the ingredients went into what was basically a kiddy pool, like the plastic ones you fill up with water. The bread was absolutely some of the best in my life. The support system I had during my time at Headwaters and the resources that were constantly available to me were the most helpful in preparing me for my future. As a student there, you're consistently encouraged to try new things and step out of your comfort zone, and I don't think that is a common trait among other schools. The teachers genuinely care about you and want to see you succeed in your own way. That is what ultimately led to my decision to pursue my education abroad, so I'm especially grateful for that aspect of Headwaters! The faculty believed in me, especially the headmaster at the time who accepted me even though I had very poor grades. They taught me that what matters in a person is their dreams, and that if you place trust in someone, they will not disappoint. It changed the course of my life and led me to Colorado Springs for boarding school and Spain for University. I had many teachers during my three years at Headwaters, and yet they all managed to be kind and encouraging; traits that were essential to my growth. |
