GENERAL INFORMATION

2009-2010 School Calendar

POLICIES

Headwaters Academy's Student/Parent Handbook provides detailed explanations of policies regarding important issues, including grading, use of technology, sexual harassment, behavior, dress code, drugs and alcohol, discrimination, plagiarism and academic honesty, among others. The handbook is given to every enrolled student and can be obtained prior to enrollment from the Director of Admissions.

Unruly or disrespectful students disrupt the learning process not only for themselves, but for other students, as well. For HWA to succeed in its mission, everyone associated with the school must work together in an environment of mutual respect. HWA does not accept students with a history of significant behavioral issues and will not tolerate behavior that disrupts a positive academic environment.

BILLING INFORMATION

Arrangements for tuition payments are included in the enrollment contract. Options include payment by the year, semester or month.

STANDARDIZED TESTING

Headwaters students receive standardized testing
each year. Both the school and parents are provided
with the results. Headwaters students currently score
an average of 89% on standardized testing. Students
with scores of 97% or above qualify to take the SAT
in 7th or 8
th grade. Their SAT scores are not part of
their permanent record, but give students the opportunity
to receive early interest from top colleges and to compare
their scores to other outstanding students nationally.

PARENT ORGANIZATION

Our active parent organization not only assists the school in fund-raising, but helps to create quality events for Headwaters families throughout the year. Activities have included Townsend's hay bale maze, family dances, and a variety of social events that foster a community of mutual support amongst our students, siblings, parents, families, friends, and staff.

SPEAKER SERIES

Three Cups of Tea author and former Headwaters Academy parent Greg Mortenson kicked off HWA's Speaker Series in the fall of 2008–pictured above, right. Noted wildlife photographer Tom Murphy gave a wonderful presentation in the spring. Check local media for upcoming events.
